Adventure. What is an adventure? Adventures need to push the adventurer to their limits, the adventure must be planned, and the adventurer must gain something from the experience. Hiking adventures, for me, cover these three statements. The hike will be physical yes, but also spiritual as I intend to use this hike to clear the thoughts running through my brain and focus on the meaning of life. For peace of mind, I will be going on this hike with a friend. This makes the hike a social adventure as well. My hopes are for our friendship to grow stronger. I’m anticipating that since we are going to be surrounded by nature that will we grow closer and not have the interference of TV, Facebook, phones and texting. I believe that this will be a great adventure for me as I am looking forward to enjoying a day outdoors, in the fresh air, appreciating nature and re-connecting with myself as well as my friend.
The adventure I’ve chosen to go on is to go hiking up to Brasstown Bald. Brasstown Bald is the highest point in the state of Georgia. This is an adventure for me because I’ve never been hiking before. I’ve been on walks in neighborhoods and on runs in the park but never hiking in the mountains. I’m hoping to capture a view that simply takes my breath away. If this happens I will better appreciate nature’s beauty for all that it is.
I plan on preparing mentally and physically. I plan on eating healthy beforehand. I also plan on stretching my muscles before so my muscles are loose and ready. I plan on wearing loose comfortable clothing; something along the lines of a warm-up suit. I also will bring a jacket so if I get to the top and its cold I can wear it. My friend and I both plan on getting off work so we can have the day to enjoy the hike together.
I'm hoping to go on my adventure on a Sunday within the next two weeks. I will be taking lots of pictures on the hike. And I might even write in a journal documenting my thoughts as I conquer the mountain.
