Dictionary.com defines an adventure as participation in exciting undertakings or enterprises. An adventure can be defined as something that gets your blood pumping to something that you’ve never done or experienced before. I feel as if an adventure can be a learning experience; something that you’ll take with you whether the adventure was good or bad.
I have not been on too many adventures so far in my young life. I wish I have had more adventures, but maybe they are yet to come. The best one I’ve been on so far is when I went zip lining in Banning Mills, GA. I went with a softball teammate and her older sister and brother in-law. We went on 19 zip lines with two reaching up to 50 mph and some lines being longer than half a mile. We also walked on 20 sky bridges. I consider it to be an adventure because I’m not a fan of heights and not being able to touch the ground at all times makes me uncomfortable. And it was certainly exciting. At first I was deathly terrified but, as I got more comfortable it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. I learned how to conquer my fear and do something outside of my comfort zone.
You were given two safety lines that held you on the zip line. You were also given harnesses and a clip to move lines. I learned how to safely transfer from zip line to zip line by the transfer calls we had to use. When you wanted to transfer to the next line you called out “transfer one” someone echoed “transfer one” then you moved the line. Then you repeated this procedure for the next line, but calling out “transfer two”. This was a safety precaution because someone had to watch you to make sure you didn’t fall out of any trees.
Although most of my zip lining adventure was positive there were a few mishaps. First, we lost our key to the cabin so he had to wait on a new one. This was simply frustrating as we could not get in the cabin and we had to wait for someone to bring us a new one. We could not leave or do anything since we didn’t want to miss the worker that was bringing us the key. And Daniel, my friend Ashley’s, brother in-law fell of one of the sky bridges high in the trees. He slipped on one of the boards and could not grab the rope rail. The safety hardness saved him from falling to the ground. He was alright thankfully, but it was definitely a scary moment.
This zip lining trip is considered an adventure because it was new to me and it is something I have never done before. My blood was pumping and it was an exciting undertaking. I conquered my fear of heights. It is also a trip I’ll always remember. My favorite was the Swoop Zip Line. It is 900-foot high line that allows you to “swoop” past the trees, rivers, and past snake creek.
I think people that are in need of an adrenaline rush would consider this an adventure. If they’ve never done anything like zip lining I think they should go zip lining. It is a lot of fun and there is a lot of pretty scenery to look at while your eyes are open. If your eyes are closed during the actual zipping, you can certainly admire the views while you are walking to the starting zip line or even one of the many sky bridges. People that aren’t afraid of heights or that have done outdoorsy things quite often probably wouldn’t think that going zip lining is very adventurous.
People that aren’t afraid of heights and speed should definitely go zip lining. I think zip lining is a good adventure for just about everyone. Even if you are very outdoorsy and are not afraid of heights, the feeling of flying through the trees is exhilarating. There is nothing else that I have ever experienced that is quite like zip lining. Therefore, I believe that anyone who tries it will have an adventure.
